Books Worth Reading

I started this year off in somewhat of a funk. For someone who seemingly has it all, I never considered myself to be a happy person. I was always so drained, negative, and whiny. I wanted to be someone who jumped out of bed and had a sparkle in her step all day long. For my Women in Entrepreneurship class, we were required to read a book from a pre-approved list and then write up a report. Take note that I hadn’t read a book in months. This was absurd considering that I spent every hour of my life reading as a child. I didn’t grow up with many friends and reading would take me far away from the suburbs. Entire summers were spent at the library – arms aching on the way out because I had checked out too many books and struggled to carry them all. Somewhere along the way, I forgot how much I enjoyed reading. My free time was now occupied with friends or television shows.

2017 was the year I rediscovered my love of reading. Books leave me inspired and ready to take on the world – they are the easiest way to change the course of your life. This was the year I learned how to remain calm, let love in, and not give a fuck about what anyone has to say. I ordered 15 used books on Amazon at the beginning of the semester and I’m proud to say I finished them all. Some were whatever, and some changed me forever. Here’s a comprehensive list of books that I describe as “life-changing” at dinner parties. These are the same books that led me to a life of 6:30 am cycling classes, getting my third piercing (something I was deathly afraid of), and tears because someone had finally managed to communicate my inner thoughts so eloquently.
