When scrolling through my instagram feed I'm constantly bombarded by models, celebrities, and bloggers. These posts, while beautiful, leave me feeling like a very large sack of potatoes. After reading a helpful article, I started following accounts on insta that inspire me. Some of my favorites being: @thechainnyc @rupikaur_ @girlboss @hercampus @createcultivate. These accounts oftentimes post inspirational quotes, so I thought I would share some below.
"Capitalism and the patriarchy has sold us the idea that we are only valuable when we are being productive, This translates, for women especially, as over-giving to prove their worth until they run themselves into the ground."
"No one is you and that is your power"
"Be the rising tide that lifts all boats"
"To whom much is given, much is required"
"She has learned to not let go of the pieces of herself that she needs in order to be what someone else wants. She has learned not to compromise. She has learned not to settle. She has learned, as difficult as it is, how to be her own sun."
"Just because you had a great time with someone doesn’t mean they are going to be someone who invests in you"
"It’s about surrounding yourself with people whose self-worth, self-respect, and values inspire you to elevate your own behavior."
"Everything you're going through is preparing you for what you asked for"
"If outside validation is your only source of nourishment you will hunger for the rest of your life"
"Happiness comes from living as you need to, as you want to. As your inner voice tells you to. Happiness comes from being who you actually are instead of who you think you are supposed to be."
"It is a powerful lie to equate thinness with self-worth"
"People don't tell you who you are. You tell them."
"Everyone is comfortable so long as you talk about mental illness in the past tense"
"Walk away from validation. It'll never be enough. No amount of likes for a piece will make you better at what you do. If you care about writing, then nurture it."
"When we resist adulting, it doesn't make things easier. You've got to lean into it."
"How do I shake this envy when I see you doing well. Sister, how do I love myself enough to know that your accomplishments are not my failures"
And here is the Spotify playlist I created while writing this piece late at night if you are interested.
