Quotes #1

I enjoy writing. It’s therapeutic. This blog has given me something to do instead of watching baby daddy (my latest cereal show: a show you watch that doesn’t involve too much emotional investment).  I’ve been really slow with the posts lately because I’m so self-conscious about what I’m throwing out there. Everyone I follow in the “blogger circle” is so talented and I feel v. mediocre in comparison. But I’m trying to quit making everything a competition this year. Continuing to tell myself that not everything needs to be a masterpiece. I paid for this domain and I intend to use it!!!

I recently started highlighting + jotting down my favorite passages/quotes when I read a good book, article, blog, etc. Here are some great reads I came across this past week:

“If you’re lonely get a friend: If you want attention go on the Bachelor”

“The moment you realize that you don’t need to be completed is the moment when you are open to finding someone with whom you can share your green juices, summer weekends, and HBO Sunday nights, otherwise known as your happiness.”

“Whatever love I might feel in my heart, others will only see in my actions”

“You need coffee, I need love and attention”

“If you don’t part ways with your peeps after talking/hanging out and mentally go “wow, that was poppin. I had fun. I’m glad I did that.” or something else positively corny like that, then issa no from me dawg”

“The only reason the term “The One” exists is because the phrase “I’ve finally found the one of a dozen guys out there for me” somehow sounds less romantic”

“Every kid wants approval, but my desire to be well liked was central to my personality”

“If someone really wants to see you, they always want to find a way. Always”

“I’ve always put a lot of energy and effort into people liking me. That’s why I’ve never understood the compliment “effortless.” People love to say: “She just walked into the party, charming people with her effortless beauty.” I don’t understand that at all. What’s so wrong with effort, anyway? It means you care. What about the girl who “walked into the party, her determination to please apparent on her eager face”? Sure, she might seem a little crazy, and, yes, maybe everything she says sounds like conversation starters she found on a website, but at least she’s trying. Let’s give her a shot!”

“The truth is, it’s hard to get people to like you, but it’s even harder to keep people liking you.”

“The best kind of laughter is laughter born of a shared memory”

“And when had a critical eye ever helped me, really? Nobody liked the girl who points out the inherent sexism on The Bachelor. But people are charmed by the girl keeling about nail art, boba tea, and the homeopathic benefits of ayahuasca.”

“The days are long, but the years are short.”

“Why you looking bitter, I be looking better”

“Ultimately, your goal should be to meet a guy with whom you can enjoy your respective lives. He should share your values because you need to make decisions together in the future, as well as your interests”

“It’s more selfless to act happy. It takes energy, generosity, and discipline to be unfailingly lighthearted, yet everyone takes the happy person for granted”

“Life is too short to save your good china or your good lingerie or your good ANYTHING for later because truly, later may never come”

“Sometimes, something that makes you happy also makes you unhappy”

“It’s not just about finding the person for you. It’s about finding the person for you at the same time that you are right for them”

“I felt like the things that other people enjoyed were more valuable, or more cultured.. more, well, legitimate. I needed to acknowledge to myself what I enjoyed, not what I wished I enjoyed”

“The fun part doesn’t come later, now is the fun part”

“There is no such thing as a soul mate.. and who would want there to be? I don’t want half of a shared soul. I want my own damn soul.”

Not sure if I would paint any of these quotes on a canvas, but I did find them worth writing down. Let’s see if I can keep this up.
